If you’ve got a long journey ahead, or want to spend some down-time getting some inspiration on sustainability, here are three of the best TED talks on the topic that I’ve seen to date. They all come in around the 15 minute mark and, usefully, are all accompanied by an interactive transcript which is great for a quick second review.

1. Steve Howard, Global Head of Sustainability Communications, IKEA Group, “Let’s Go All In On Selling Sustainability”

IKEA is a true innovator when it comes to sustainability, particularly with their focus on supply chain initiatives. This is a great masterclass in end-to-end sustainability from a global giant.

2. Chris McKnett, Managing Director and Head of ESG at State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), “The Investment Logic for Sustainability”

It’s become somewhat of a mantra for me to say that “sustainability isn’t just good for the environment, it’s good for business” and as companies continue to grow their sustainability and CSR teams, this is becoming a significant trend. Here Chris McKnett makes a powerful case for why sustainability is vital for business.

3. Ray Anderson, the late founder of FLOR carpet company, “The Business Logic of Sustainability”

Continuing the “good for business” theme from a true visionary in the sustainability field, the sadly passed Ray Anderson shares his story. Aside from being a hugely likeable person, this talk really resonates with me as he emphasizes the need for rigorously measuring progress and highlights how effective sustainability can be as real marketplace differentiator.
